Steve was in my life for a short period of time but had a great influence on me , his character and love of what he did was infectious , I may not have gone down a geology route but I will never forget him

Dear Steve, it was a real pleasure to know you, even though mostly by way of casual chats on the doorstep. The discussions were sometimes brief and sometimes lengthy but always interesting and insightful for me, ranging from why the veg was progressing so well on the allotment to pondering how computer algorithms worked in order to pester us with those bloody annoying ads. You had a brilliant no nonsense approach to the topics we mulled over and so they were invariably packed with a good helping of humour and laughter that I won't forget. Thank you.
